Playstation 3 "Flow" Game Review

My Overview

Flow is certainly the most innovative game on the market today. Finally, a title to take full advantage of the Saxxis controller, and perfectly!

Gameplay is simple, satisfying, and beautiful. The graphics are flawless, pure 1080i delight, and the detail is meticulously entrancing.

At the most abstract level, the game is Pac-Man 2007, as you gobble up pretty little power pellets, as well as your enemies. The big difference (besides the completely different graphical elements) is that in Flow, you evolve your creature as you progress.

Progression through levels is achieved via diving deeper and deeper into a 3 dimensional abyss. The deeper you get, the more difficult the enemies become.

Once you finish a set of levels as one particular species of creature, you reach an egg for the next creature. It is important to note that, at this point only, the game automatically saves so that the next time that you play, you can choose to play as the new species, or any other previous species that you had gotten as deep with.

My Complaints

It's not obvious as to what you should do when you begin. A respect for Flow's simplicity and the awe of discovery fade quickly when you just want to go to bed, can't figure out how to save the game, and become concerned about loosing your last hour's worth of gameplay.

It turns out that if you quit before you complete a set of levels, you will have to start from the beginning with that creature.

Do not let this slow you from getting the game, it's uniqueness and detailed beauty far outweigh this one complaint.

Also, finishing any particular level only takes about fifteen minutes to one half hour to complete.

My Tip

To change creatures during gameplay (After you have gotten through the first creature) press start, then find the blue-up, ring to choose a different creature.
